A lemon backdrop from the dollar store with several props laid out on the floor. I had the idea of creating a vintage-themed photoshoot, but didn’t know exactly how to set it up. So, I played around with vintage props found in my basement and took a diverse set of images. The photograph that I picked was from one of the first set-ups I created. I didn’t have a long enough table to place the poster board and objects on top of so I had to place them on the floor. As you can see I adjusted my studio lights as low as I could get them. The lights don’t allow me to angle them downwards so I improvised and placed something underneath the back legs of both lights to get that angle. This allowed the objects to become fully lit. The creepy clown heads and roses were found in my basement. The red-painted babies I already had for a Halloween photoshoot I did last year. And then the red button I have had for a long time with my crafting collections. I already had the idea that I wanted this photoshoot to consist of red items. I couldn’t use my tripod because it didn’t angle down far enough so I had to manually hold the camera over the objects. It was a little difficult because I needed to get my camera evenly over the objects. I found these wooden skewers, painted them pink, then stuck them in a headband as you can see in the picture. I painted half my face yellow with Apple Barrel acrylic paint from Walmart. I only did half my face cause I knew I only wanted to take a picture of my mouth. I then found a golden silk material in my basement that fit perfectly with my idea. I didn’t initially plan to use the material but I didn’t think about how my shirt and hair didn’t match the whole look. I tried to tie the silk behind my neck but it didn’t like that. I then tried to use a clip to keep it in place but that didn’t work either. So, I had to manually hold the silk in place and then use my other hand to take the pictures. One on the left and one on the right of me to keep my face evenly lit. And as you can see I had my tripod set up pretty tall so that it was head on with the bottom half of my face. I initially started out with both of my studio lights, but ended up turning the left one off. I did this because I was also using my RGB LED light like I used in the Peculiar Things project. I used it to create a blue tint to the photograph while the studio light on the right was providing warmer light for contrast. It’s hard to see in the picture, but the LED light is attached on top of my camera. It was a challenge to get the right angle of not only the LED light but the studio light as well so there was a lot of adjusting. To get the blue tone with the LED, I had to adjust the RGB to 238 degrees at full saturation with the brightness at around 80%. I did this last as it was the quickest and definitely easiest part during my process. I bought little butterfly cutouts at Dollar Tree awhile back and finally got to utilize them as the background. If you didn’t guess it already, the little sticks with pink blocks on the ends are actually star-shaped sponge stamps. I found so many of them in my basement and decided to create an interesting contraption out of them. I scrounged up two styrofoam pieces in my basement that I stuck the sponge stamps into to create something photogenic. I gathered up items I’ve collected over the years and little things that I’ve saved from previous projects. I also scavenged some exciting objects from my basement (like the green, two-headed babydoll) and little toys from the Dollar Tree. I initially was going to use a yellow cloth for the background, but it was too creased for my liking so I substituted it with a red poster board. I used both of my studio lights and a foam board as a reflector. As you can see in the picture, I have a light attached to my camera; this is an RGB LED Video Light by LituFoto from Amazon. I recently just purchased it, and this was actually the first time I got to experiment with it. To add some more color to this photograph, I used the LED light to protrude a red glow onto my subject. The table items were toys and little knick knacks that I got from the dollar store for less than $20. They are on a table I found in my basement covered with a pink shower protector that I also got from the dollar store. To the right of the picture is one of my softbox studio lights that I use. The brand is HPUSN from Amazon for a pretty low price compared to other studio lights. They have wonky stands, but they produce light for me, and that’s all that matters, right? Attached to the tripod is my pride and joy, a Nikon D5600 camera. I’m not sure what brand the tripod is, but it does its job. The backdrop is the shower protector from the previous photo and I clipped it to the ceiling rafters with clothespins.
